Inclusivity

At Futuresound we know there is more we can do as Yorkshire’s largest independent promoter of live music to ensure that everybody who loves music has a chance to work in our industry, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, sexual orientation or disability. We are also conscious that we are fortunate to be in a position to make a positive difference by championing local, national and international artists of all backgrounds and making our venues and events safe spaces for everyone.

WE ❤️ MUSIC

OK, so what are we doing?

There is a long way to go in this, but we are confident that by reaching out to schools, colleges and community groups and starting at a grassroots level we can encourage a more diverse range of people to engage with our industry.

We identify those areas within the group where the workforce is traditionally male, white and university educated, and work out how we can help make this more diverse. There is a long way to go in this, but we are confident that by reaching out to schools, colleges and community groups and starting at a grassroots level we can encourage a more diverse range of people to engage with our industry.

When we advertise our job vacancies. We do so in the usual music press and recruitment websites, but we also make sure that vacancies are shared online via social media accounts and pages which are more likely to reach people who are not already working in the industry. This includes sharing with community organisations and colleges as well as universities.

For some roles, where appropriate, CV’s are presented anonymously and without reference to applicants age or gender, so applicants are judged on their merits and experience alone.

Some roles need qualifications and experience, but for others we do not give preference to those who have been through higher education. Your attitude, experience and communication skills are more important.

The Environment

Festivals have a big carbon footprint and create a lot of waste. That’s one reason why Futuresound created their Live at Leeds Festival in 2007. Live at Leeds is in the city of Leeds, across multiple venues. Because it is in a city it is easily reachable by public transport, and once you are there you can get from venue to venue on foot.

Wherever possible we work with local companies at our festivals and gigs, meaning there is less travel involved and we are supporting our community.

Commitment to Net Zero Greenhouse Emissions:

As a business we are assessing the best ways to reduce food waste and single use plastics usage, reduce our energy consumption, recycle waste where possible and reduce water consumption. We currently recycle our vegetable oil and use careful menu planning to reduce food waste at the Wardrobe. Our meat and vegetables are all sourced locally, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting local businesses.

The Futuresound group festivals are run using bio-fuel generators rather than petrol. We are committed to working with local businesses for production, catering and concessions in order to reduce carbon emissions.
