What did you want to do career-wise when you were at school?

When I was at school I always wanted to work in music but to be honest it always seemed like a pipe dream. I went through so many phases of what that should look like, one week I wanted to be a music journalist then the next week I wanted to design band merch. So I perused subjects that would help. I’ve always been very creative and luckily they were my strongest subjects.

What route did you take into the music industry?

It’s been a very weird route! From my GCSES I did my A’ levels – Textiles, Graphic Illustration, English and Media Studies. I then went onto art college for a year to do my Foundation Art & Design and eventually ended up at university where I studied Textile Design! Random I know! From there I did various placements and jobs in the design industry and then ended up at Futuresound.

What do you love about your job?

I love the variety of what I work on – every day is different!

What are the biggest challenges for you at work?

I think at the moment it’s juggling workload, it’s very fast paced environment.

What tips do you have for someone interested in working in the music industry in Yorkshire?

As my route into the music industry hasn’t been the most conventional I’d say keep an open mind and take all of the opportunities you can! Explore different roles within the industry to find what you’re really passionate about. If FE/HE is a route you want to pursue I’d say definitely explore all options – looking back now I don’t think A-Levels were the right choice for me, but I didn’t really know of any other options at the time! Try and get as many work placements as possible too!

When did you start as an apprentice at Futuresound?

I started as an accounts apprentice in February 2021

What does your role involve?

My role involves a variety of duties, such as processing invoices, bookkeeping, preparing management accounts, making payments to suppliers and putting together profit/loss reports after events

Why did you choose Futuresound?

When looking for an apprenticeship, I wanted to make sure I could find a company that would provide me with the skills to obtain my qualifications whilst also giving me real experience in finance. I could tell during my interview that Futuresound would be able to give me that, with the added bonus of being a fun and welcoming company.

It’s also amazing knowing that I can work for a company that specialises in music, Futuresound really is one of a kind!

Why did you choose the apprenticeship route?

Apprenticeships are a fantastic route into any choice of career, as the qualifications can open many doors in the future. They also give you the opportunity to work in a new environment, which can be really helpful when thinking about future prospects.

What would you like to happen careerswise when the apprenticeship is over?

While the qualifications and skills obtained through the apprenticeship could provide me with lots of job opportunities elsewhere, I would love to stay with Futuresound for the foreseeable future, as the work environment is fun, relaxed and fulfilling. As I continue to learn about more advanced concepts, I hope my work in the future will help to keep pushing the company forward.
